Truck Fabricator

Gateway Truck & Refrigeration, a Carrier Refrigeration, Volvo, and Hino truck dealer with multiple locations in Illinois and Missouri, is in search of experienced Truck Fabricator for our truck repair shop in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Job Summary: Responsible for performing vehicle fabrication and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with Gateway Truck & Refrigeration standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform shortening of truck wheel bases
• Will be required to move axles
• Skills and ability to weld material up to one inch thick
• Operate a crane/ forklift
• Accurately remove and install truck bodies
• Perform installation of hydraulic wet-kits
• Welding abilities including: stick, MIG, TIG and aluminum
• Ability to safely use a cutting torch and plasma cutter
• Technical and hands on capabilities including fabrication and mechanical skills
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Requires 5+ years of experience in the field or in a related field
• Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
• Class B driver's license required or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment
• Able to perform basic electrical, technical, and mechanical repairs
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or its equivalent
• Valid state issued driver's license

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

• Standing six to eight hours per shift
• Occasionally lift/carry 50 - 75 pounds at waist level
• Occasionally lift overhead up to 60 pounds
• Occasionally carry with right and left hand 50 - 75 pounds
• Frequent stooping, crawling, climbing, bending, walking, and use of creeper
• Frequently working off of scaffolding, ladders, rail cars, and at excessive heights
• Frequent overtime/ possible scheduled weekend work
• Exposure to: noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, hazardous and non-hazardous materials, weather conditions, insects, welding fumes, acids, varying environment temperatures of hot to cold, operating equipment at night and use of artificial lights
